According to the Copyright Act, only the authors have the right to reproduce their works. As printing is one of the means of reproduce, printing of others’ works should obtain the consent or authorization of the copyright owners in advance unless the use complies with the regulations of reasonable use described in Articles 44 to 65 of the Copyright Act.
If students of universities print domestic or foreign books for the most part or the whole book, such use has exceeded the scope of reasonable use and will constitute a violation of copyright. In case the copyright owner prosecuted according to the law, one may have to take criminal and civil responsibilities. To strengthen the guidance of students to respect the intellectual property rights, please encourage all universities to actively promote and to remind students to use original textbooks (including second-hand books) and do not print other’s works illegally to avoid violation of the law.
